About Lincoln Sanctuary - Mission and Team Dedicated to Bird Rescue

Our Sanctuary’s Story and Purpose

Located in Albuquerque, Lincoln Sanctuary is operated solely by Reagan Altenbach, his partner and a handful of volunteers. Founded officially in 2026, Lincoln Sanctuary provides homes for disabled parrots, carefully matches adoptable birds to their forever homes, and works with local veterinarians to ensure the animals are comfortable and thriving.

Values & Mission

Lincoln Sanctuary's mission is to change the world for every animal that comes through the door. Our founder saw the neglect and suffering that companion exotics experience, and knew he could help. We believe in not just providing for an animal's basic needs of food, shelter, and safety-- but also their advanced, misunderstood necessities. We work with each individual animal to prepare a care plan involving their enrichment, socialization, and emotional needs.

Founder & Operator

Reagan has been working professionally with animals since 2016 in facilities such as wildlife rehabilitation centers, zoos, and animal shelters. He began rehoming and rescuing parrots in 2020 and named the rescue after his first ever bird, Lincoln. Reagan has worked almost exclusively with birds, from eagles, emus, parrots and more. His experience with AZA accredited facilities means he is especially suited to the long-term care of parrots and companion reptiles.
