As an animal rescue, our responsibility lies 100% with the animals. Their ability to thrive for the rest of their life depends on my choice to place an animal with the right home. Many of the animals that I care for may have suffered at the hands of people before, usually unintentionally. Parrots are intelligent, emotional, and endlessly complicated. During the adoption process, I will have to ask questions regarding lifestyle, income, and family dynamics. These are not meant to be uncomfortable or invasive, some of these things can affect the capacity for an individual to care for these animals. Additionally, I will have to ask and often instruct adopters on how to care for these birds, even ones who have had parrots before. This is far from judgemental, and I do not expect perfection out of any of my adopting families. We are all learning every single day the new best practices for care, including myself. 

I ask for your understanding and patience when adopting a parrot from Lincoln Sanctuary, and I ask that you understand if I am asking questions about the animal's care, I am not judging. I am advocating for your new best friend.
